Kuwait Embassy in Seoul ๐ฐ๐ผ
Location: 34 Jangmun-ro, Yongsan-gu
On March 26th, Joseph and I traveled to the Embassy of Kuwait. The building's grandness in size and its golden exterior made this the most intriguing embassy yet, and the atmosphere inside of the embassy was more luxurious and calming. Once inside, we were greeted by Korean workers who offered us Kuwait teaโธบall of the embassies seem to give us tea.
Culturally, the Embassy of Kuwait works to expose Koreans to Kuwaiti culture through events like arts & crafts exhibitions. For instance, during Kuwaitโs National Liberation Day, the Embassy organizes the Kuwait Art and Culture Exhibition. Mr. AlSabah also promotes cultural exchange programmes such as the Korea-Arab Friendship Caravan, where various forms of traditional Korean music and dance are performed before Kuwaiti audiences.
Economically, the consulate helps with the creation of mega-projects between the two countries, including the construction of the Sheikh Jaber Causeway, the Al-Ahmadi and Al-Zour refineries, and the renovation of the Al-Abdullah port. The Embassy also oversees the issuance of legal licenses to Korean companies interested in investing. Interestingly, South Korea stands as the foremost importer of crude oil from Kuwait, in which Kuwait ranks as the third largest exporter of crude oil.
Mr. AlSabah grew up in Kuwait relatively happily, but he remarked that in middle school, he played video games all day, was overweight, and didnโt have a vision for his future. However, he was interested in history and global affairs, and this inspired Mr. AlSabah to begin diplomatic training. Through this, he discovered the joy and respect brought forth through diplomatic services. In college, Mr. AlSabah also went through a Judo-centered weight loss journey inspired by his wish to become a more โbadassโ figure.
On a final note, Mr. AlSabah encourages everyone to work harder to not only achieve goals but to improve oneself. He also believes students should be ambitious, as this is how opportunities are formed. We deeply appreciate the insight given by Mr. AlSabah, and we thank the Embassy of Kuwait for their time!
