Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations πŸ‡΅πŸ‡°
8 E 65th St, New York, NY 10065

The Pakistan Mission to the United Nations is hosted in a grand building on the upper east side of Manhattan. Walking up the grand staircase, we arrived at the office of his excellency Ambassador Munir Akram, the permanent representative of Pakistan to the United Nations. Mr. Akram, a career diplomat, arrived with his daughter who is around our age. We all engaged in a discussion centered around Pakistan’s involvement within the United Nations system. Pakistan’s main concentrations are around the Kashmir dispute, Afghanistan, and the climate around international terrorism. Pakistan is deeply involved in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), as they held the presidency of the committee last year. Ambassador Akram is personally concerned about the lack of solidarity within the UN, that larger and more powerful countries feel entitled not to follow the guidelines because of their immense power. Pakistan and other countries are working towards finding a better balance within the UN, as the lack of solidarity makes things like COVID-19 extremely difficult to overcome. We would like to thank the Ambassador, his daughter, and the staff of the Pakistan Mission for being so welcoming!
