Permanent Mission of Seychelles

Permanent Mission of Seychelles to the United Nation πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¨
800 Second Avenue, Suite 400C, New York, N.Y. 10017

On our last day of visits I first visited the permanent mission of the Republic of Seychelles to the United Nations. Their office was in a bigger office rented out by the commonwealth of nations that houses the missions of many small island nations. Meeting with Ambassador Ian Madeleine I learned a lot about the role of small island nations within the United Nations. The Seychelles mission consists of two diplomatic staff making it difficult for their mission to cover all the bases of the work that happens within the United Nations. This forces the Seychelles mission to focus the specific interest of the Seychelles which include sustainable financing, sustainable development, and anti terroism efforts. In terms of the Seychelle’s approach to foreign relations it is quite unique. Instead of trying to attack multilateral problems by acting on specific issues it strives to solve problems such as poverty which are often at the core of these symptomatic problems. In terms of Ambassador Madeleine’s background he has had a very unique career path. Initially, he was a high school teacher in history and geography. After this he transferred to working in the foreign ministry where he was posted in Paris, Belgium, then as the officer of maritime affairs. I would like to thank Ambassador Madeleine for taking the time to meet with me and I thought it was fascinating to learn about the Seychelle’s unique perspective on solving global issues!
