Permanent Mission of Djibouti
Permanent Mission of Djibouti to the United Nations π©π―
Our meeting at the permanent mission of Djibouti with Ambassador Mohamed Siad Doualeh shed light on the situation of stability within Eastern Africa. Djibouti is situated along the eastern coastline of Africa. It is a small country that lies close to the equator, creating a year round tropical climate. In Djibouti, one can enjoy the sparkling seas and red volcanic sand all at the same time. Djiboutiβs function in the global community is largely defined by its geography. Seaports and trade make up a large part of their economy, and only recently has tourism become a reliable source of revenue in the country. Djiboutiβs importance within the system of multilateral diplomacy within Africa cannot be understated. Djibouti has very good relationships with a number of powerful countries such as the U.S., France, Japan, and even China. They host the military bases of these countries, providing an access point to the rest of Eastern Africa for these countries. As a result, Djibouti has enjoyed a large amount of stability and powerful economic relationships with more developed countries. In the UN, Djibouti puts a large focus on the fight against terrorism as well as the fight for climate security. Ambassador Doualeh serves as the chairman of the UN third committee on social, humanitarian, and cultural issues while also serving as the ambassador of Djibouti to the United States and Canada. We would like to thank the ambassador for taking the time to meet with us. We found it extremely fascinating to learn about the importance of such a small country within the UN!
