Permanent Mission of Austria

Permanent Mission of Austria to the United Nations πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ή
600 3rd Ave 31st floor, New York, NY 10016

Unfortunately, we were unable to visit the Austrian Permanent Mission due to new COVID restrictions, but we were able to meet with Deputy Permanent Representative Mr. Hans-Joachim Almoslechner in a nearby cafe. He was well prepared to answer all of our questions regarding Austria’s focus in the UN. Austria is especially involved in international diplomacy, hosting the third of four UN headquarters in their capital, Vienna. In the six committees of the general assembly Austria is focused on all types of topics such as weapons smuggling, clean energy, humanitarian issues, safety of journalists, and even outer space diplomacy. In 2026, Austria plans to run for a seat in the Security Council of the UN, publicly displaying their level of devotion to international diplomacy. Mr. Almoslechner has worked at the Permanent Mission for 2 years but has been involved with the UN for many more. His favorite parts of Austria are skiing, something he recommends we do in Austria. Before our meeting with Mr. Almoslechner adjourned, he stressed the importance of youth participating in international diplomacy, stating that Austria was hopeful for future generations of political and social leaders.
